Every year, we carry out a free gas safety inspection in every home, whether or not you have gas appliances. It only takes 30 to 45 minutes, and it's carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer and it's what keeps you and your household safe.
Gas Safe Register data released for Gas Safety Week found that around 1 in 5 UK homes has an unsafe gas appliance. A yearly check is the simplest way to make sure your home isn't one of them, and to catch small issues, like a worn part or a fault, before they turn into something more serious and create high costs for you later.
Well-maintained gas appliances are also less likely to break down, so keeping your appointment now could save you the stress of a cold home and an emergency repair later.
What should I do if there is an emergency?
If you smell gas, you should call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 at any time day or night.
Booking your appointment
When your inspection is due, you'll get a letter from one of our gas contractors with your appointment date and time. Please keep this appointment. If the date or time doesn't work for you, contact us as soon as possible to rearrange rather than letting it slide. Missed appointments mean more visits, more admin, and a longer wait until your home is confirmed safe.

Unable be there yourself?
If you're unable to be home for your appointment, that's fine, as long as someone over 18 can let the engineer in for you. Just make sure whoever's covering for you knows the date and time, and that there's credit on the gas and electricity meter so the engineer can carry out the checks.
Why it matters
Gas appliances, chimneys and flues (a pipe, duct, or channel that safely carries exhaust gases, smoke, and waste fumes from a heating appliance) that aren't properly maintained can put your health at risk.
Take five minutes this Gas Safety Week to check your appointment details, and make sure you or someone else will be in. It's a small thing that makes a big difference to keeping your home safe.
