Coming together at Butlers Gardens

At Butlers Gardens, one of our supported schemes for residents facing homelessness on the Isle of Wight, residents have been making the most of the good weather together and building a sense of community.

The week kicked off with a day in the garden. Residents Rob, Scott, Ziggy and Tony rolled up their sleeves and all got stuck in, arranging hanging baskets, filling planters and giving the entrance area a much-needed clean and tidy.  With new plants in place, the residents have committed to keeping up the watering!

Next up, they’ll be sorting their greenhouse and sprucing up the back garden.

With the sunshine sticking around, later in the week the residents got together for a BBQ. A team effort, they shopped for the essentials, put the BBQ together, fired it up, cooked the food and even washed up.

The evening was a great success, bringing everyone together to enjoy some good food, music and one another’s company in the sunshine.

Harriet Martin, Peer Support Worker, said: “We love hosting these types of activities, as they bring residents together to connect and support one another and encourage them to have pride in their home.

“Our residents face many challenges so it’s important they’ve a home that’s supportive and somewhere they enjoy being.”
