In autumn 2025, Tracy Webster, Places and Community Partnerships Co-ordinator, secured funding through our Social Value Team to install raised planters at Worsley Court. Contractor, Chas Berger helped deliver the project, giving residents the chance to make use of an underused outdoor space and grow food together.
Since then, residents have transformed the garden. They've built an arbour where neighbours can relax and turned the raised beds into a thriving growing space, producing tomatoes, onions, lettuce, broad beans, fruit trees and more. They share the produce with fellow residents and donate any surplus to a local food pantry, helping people facing food insecurity in the wider community.
Gardening has also changed things for the resident leading the project. Having previously struggled with reduced mobility, they've found a new sense of purpose from diving into getting green fingered in the garden.
We've since accessed further funding to install a greenhouse this year, boosting growing capacity so the garden can flourish all year round. The garden's impact reaches far beyond the vegetables as it's encouraging more residents to spend time outdoors, and to see the literal fruits of their labour!
