Community Roots Web

The Oarechard, in Faversham, Kent has become a flourishing example of our Sustainability efforts and community support. This much loved green space, maintained by dedicated volunteers, has received a third round of funding from partner organisation Axis, marking another milestone in its development.

The Oarechard team are aiming high this year as they prepare their application for a Green Flag Award, the national benchmark for well managed parks and green spaces.

We already hold an award for our Bob Fowler Community Allotments site in Sittingbourne, and now the hope is to extend that success to Faversham.

Achieving Green Flag status requires a strong commitment to environmental responsibility, excellent maintenance, community engagement, and robust safety standards. Thanks to Axis’s latest funding boost, the team ready to meet those expectations.

This round of funding has allowed The Oarechard to invest in a range of new equipment that will directly support the site’s upkeep, accessibility, and event planning. It includes:

  • A sturdy new wheelbarrow
  • Loppers, clippers, and secateurs
  • A new fork and spade
  • Reusable plates and cups
  • Sharps boxes and first aid kits.

“The items we’ve received will be a huge help to us for every day use and as part of our Green Flag application. Twheelbarrow will help us in replenishing the wood chips for the path, the loppers, clippers and secateurs will be used for tree pruning and to remove undergrowth. The fork and spade will be used for digging out persistent weeds or any new plantings that may occur. A huge thank you to everyone involved”.
