Walter, a long-time resident of Paul Byrne House in London, is showing us all what resilience looks like. After a tough year of hospital visits and health challenges, he’s now housebound and uses a wheelchair - but he hasn’t let that slow him down.
He’s found a new passion in creating diamond art, and his flat is now filled with beautiful pieces he’s made himself. It’s a hobby he’s embraced fully, bringing colour and creativity into his daily life.
Walter has been a Southern Housing resident for over 20 years, and Scheme Housing Officer, Bernadette, has known him the whole time, she said: “When we first met, he was active in the Sea Cadets for two decades. Though he has had to step away from that part of his life, he’s adapted with strength and positivity.
“It’s inspiring to see how he continues to live life to the full and we’re proud to have him as part of our community.”
He recently enjoyed a special celebration for his birthday, booking a local hall and inviting friends and loved ones. Thanks to his brilliant carers and a supportive agency, he was able to attend and enjoy the day.
